Library

The Jewish Primary Day School of the Nation's Capital believes a strong school library is essential to effective education. Our program is designed to support the educational goals of the school by providing both an organized collection of materials and instruction in the use of those materials. The library supports specific instructional programs, complements instruction in reading and critical thinking skills and habits, provides information for specific purposes, and encourages an appreciation for literature.

These goals are achieved by teaching library skills within the curriculum, by reinforcing thinking skills taught in the classroom, and by introducing the art of selection and evaluation so that students can discriminate between books they read for pleasure and books they use for information.

Reading will never go out of style, but technology also is here to stay. Our program is designed to help students find the information they seek through the format that helps them most. There is a collection of general studies books, including a solid basic reference collection, a fine selection of fiction, and a CD-ROM collection of research tools. An on-line catalog and circulation system and computer stations are available. It is a warm environment where the children find themselves surrounded by books.
