JPDS-NC hosted its Fourth Annual Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Lecture on May 3, 2009, with the Honorable Condoleezza Rice as our keynote speaker. Dr. Rice shared personal reflections on her experience as a world leader during some of the most significant moments in our nation’s history. The lecture was preceded by a town hall meeting held at our school with JPDS-NC 4th, 5th and 6th graders. True to form, our students asked poignant, thoughtful, and articulate questions of Dr. Rice, including her position on interrogation methods.
Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Elie Wiesel Speaks at JPDS-NC Third Annual Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Lecture May 27, 2008 / 22 Iyar 5768

WASHINGTON - Local children studying the Holocaust meet living history as a survivor of the Nazi death camps comes to their school. Author and human rights activist Elie Wiesel talked with fourth, fifth and sixth graders at the Jewish Primary Day School in Northwest. "I suspect this is something they are going to remember for a lifetime," says Sharon Freundel with the school. While Wiesel, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, noted the children in the school are "so young," his message was not lost on them. "I'm really lucky," one student says. "I get to come to a school where I can be Jewish and no one really cares. He was put in a concentration camp not because he had done something but because he was Jewish." (Copyright 2008 by WTOP)
